It goes without saying that video conferencing is an important and ever more essential part of business communications. Video conferencing solutions are simpler and more accessible than ever, in quite a few ways, but there are also so many more options and add-ons. Here are a few key things to look for when you’re shopping for a video conferencing solution.

Interoperability

Your video conferencing solution is a tool for connecting with as many people as possible. You don’t want to lose customers and clients by leaving them out of the loop. So make sure your conferencing solution offers interoperability with various endpoints. With everyone using a mix-and-match approach with technology, making sure all of those pieces get along with each other is essential.

Bring Your Own Device

Remote workers and onsite employees alike expect to be able to use their own devices pretty much all the time, whether they’re on the move or in a conference room. Liberal BYOD policies and conferencing solutions that are BYOD-enabled will allow your employees to more easily transition between personal and communal work spaces. Seamlessness is the name of the game, and giving your employees the opportunity to collaborate with their own devices is the way to play it.

Whiteboarding

Whiteboarding might not be a conferencing feature you prioritize, but you might want to reconsider. Think about how chaotic and impenetrable a brainstorming session can become without a comprehensive visual record of what has been proposed. When your employees are hashing out a problem, you want them scribbling and drawing and making lists. And the best way to do this is still with a good old-fashioned blank page, the digital version of which should be included in whatever conferencing solution you choose.

Cloud Conferencing

You might not be ready to part with on premise solutions, but you will, at the very least, need to make sure your conferencing solution offers hybrid cloud options. Eventually, cloud collaboration solutions like Prime Call Cloud UC will be the norm, so don’t fall behind by ignoring the cloud.

The Right Camera

Of course you know you’ll need a camera, but it’s not enough to simply shell out the money for the best 4K camera you can find. You need to find a camera that’s right for your room. The camera you’ll want for a huddle room--something with a wide angle lens meant for smaller rooms--is not the camera you’ll want for your conference room. This goes for screens and audio components, too. Spend time thinking about what is most suitable for the space. It’s not always the biggest screen or the loudest speakers.
