So, you're thinking about adding digital signage to your company's toolkit. Excellent! It's as easy as sticking a screen in your lobby and loading it up with some cool pictures, right? No, sorry. You'll have to ask yourself (and, hopefully, answer) a few crucial questions before committing to such a undertaking.
What Are You Selling?
You have to have a clear idea about how you are going to use your digital display to market your business. The word ‘selling’ can and should be used in the loosest sense. You need not be literally advertising a product or service. Perhaps it is a story about your company that you are ‘selling.’ Maybe it is a certain image or attitude you are ‘advertising.’ Think beyond old-fashioned advertising and consider the ways your digital signage can communicate more subtly about who you are and what you do.
How Are You Selling It?
This is where you have to think about how and when people will be seeing your display. Will they be on the move? Will they be sitting in a lobby? Standing in line? Context is everything. The nature of your content will in large part be determined by the amount of time you expect a customer to be in front of the display. An attention-grabbing burst of sound and motion might be appropriate for a mall display geared toward pedestrians, while a more mannered and relaxed presentation will play better in a quiet lobby.
Does It Make Sense In Your Space?
Digital signage is a newfangled high tech solution, yes, but it is also an architectural feature that should play nice with all that old-fashioned stuff like walls and mirrors and couches and ceilings and plants and whatever else constitutes the space you call work. Before you implement a digital signage solution, think about how it will contribute to the flow of your floor plan and the overall vibe of the room (or hall or foyer or plaza or what have you.) Sticking a screen just anywhere will look like a cheap afterthought. Thus, the content on that screen will be much easier to ignore or, worse, resent.
Are You Confident In The Technology?
A seamless and cohesive presentation strategy is impossible if you can’t trust the technology, if you don’t feel fully capable of uploading new content in a timely and simple fashion. This, of course, is where we come in. So if any of these questions seem overwhelming, don’t hesitate to ask for help in answering them.
