As recommended by the CDC, organizations are strongly encouraged to have a continuity plan for COVID-19 outbreak and prevention. As a result, many organizations, including schools, hospitals, government entities and large organizations, have implemented a "Work From Home" policy/mandate without having the proper enterprise communication systems in place for their employees to do so.
We are experts in video conferencing and unified communications and have provided a few tips on how to help maintain business continuity while working from home.
Tip 1: Have an Enterprise Grade Communication Platform
Enterprise-grade video conferencing and unified communication services, like StarLeaf, include video meetings, chat and screen-sharing features. To help keep businesses running and our communities safe we partnered with StarLeaf to offer anyone affected by COVID-19 3 free months of the StarLeaf video conferencing service: Download Here.
There is No obligation, no credit card required. Includes 3 months of unlimited point to point calls (no time restrictions) for up to 20 users with up to 100 users per session. Available for Windows, iOS, Android and Mac. Requirements: An active internet connection.
Tip 2: Set the Stage
A good light source in front of you, not behind you, illuminates your face during your video call and makes a big difference. Users will be able to see you during your meeting without any visual disruptions. It also helps to have a plain, blue or green colored background behind you. Too much clutter distracts viewers. Make sure your camera is at an optimal level that is set at your eyes. This gives your viewer a nice picture of your face instead of looking up or down at you in an unflattering way.
Tip 3: Have a Quiet Environment
Make sure you have a quiet environment to work in. Close your door and shut the window if there is lots of outdoor noise. Let your kids know that you’re working and that you need some quiet time. Having a quiet environment will help you have a nice calm place to work and makes your calls void of distractions.
Tip 4: Use the Right Headset
Most laptops don’t have the same audio capability/quality as does a quality headset. Utilize something that you are comfortable wearing so that meetings from home are seamless and comfortable. Having collaborative equipment is important for optimal calls and video conferencing.
Tip 5: Remember to Move
Make sure you move! Sitting at a desk most of the day can be hard on the body. Set an alarm to stand and stretch, walk around the house if you have to. After a good stretch or walk you will feel refreshed and ready to work again! Without the day to day of the office we are more inclined to stay at our desk at home (in our pj’s) without any fuss. It’s important to stay active and to keep our bodies healthy. With the COVID-19 outbreaks it’s important to be vigilant of our health and to keep active healthy bodies strong.
